Managing Milestones in Your PI Planning Board (Savah)

Milestones in Savah mark significant events or deadlines during a Program Increment (PI). This guide walks you through how to create, manage, and link work items to milestones efficiently.

Accessing the Milestone Section

  1. Go to your PI Planning Board.

  2. Select “Milestones” from the left-hand navigation menu.

Understanding the Milestone Overview

Each milestone card shows:

  • Key (e.g., MS-3)

  • Title (e.g., Alpha Release)

  • Date (e.g., 29 Apr 2025)

  • Status (e.g., Planned)

  • Linked Items (e.g., 2 work items)

  • A collapsible section showing linked item details (status, team, sprint)

Creating a New Milestone

To create a new milestone:

  1. Click “+ New Milestone” in the top-right corner.

  2. Fill in the following fields in the popup form:

  • Item Type

  • Title

  • Status

  • Responsible

  • Milestone Date

  • Description

  1. Click “Save”.

Linking Work Items to a Milestone

  1. Click the link icon on the desired milestone row.

  2. In the “Link Items with [Milestone ID]” modal, check the boxes of relevant items.

  3. Click “Save”.

Once saved, the items appear nested under the milestone.

Managing Milestones

For each milestone, you can:

  • Edit using the pencil icon

  • Unlink items with the X icon next to each item

  • Delete the milestone from the main view

  • Use the timeline bar to view upcoming milestones visually.

  • Zoom between 3M, 6M, or 1Y using the sprint filter buttons.

  • Hover over milestone icons on the timeline for quick info.

Tips for Effective Milestone Management

  • Use short, action-oriented titles

  • Only link items that directly impact the milestone

  • Keep statuses updated throughout the PI

  • Assign responsibilities clearly
