Importing Jira Epics and Stories on the Program Board

Savah supports two-way integration with Jira, allowing you to manage your Epics and Stories seamlessly between both platforms. You can create Epics and Stories in Savah that sync directly to Jira — and you can also import existing Epics and Stories from Jira into Savah for planning and execution within your Program Board.

There are two ways to import data from Jira into Savah:

1. Importing Individual Jira Epics Using Issue Keys

If you know the Jira issue keys (e.g., JK-1234), you can fetch specific Epics along with their child stories into Savah.

🔐Permissions Note The Integration Account must have permission to access both the Epic and its associated Stories in Jira. The Jira projects involved must also be linked in the integration account.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Program Board Backlog.

  2. Ensure your workspace is linked to a Jira Integration Account.

  3. Click on the “From Jira” dropdown next to the “Add Epic” button.

  4. Select “By Issue Key”.

  1. A popup will open where you can enter one or more Jira Epic keys.

  2. Click Search. Matching Epics from Jira will be listed.

  3. Select the Epics you wish to import.

  4. Click Fetch & Save.

Savah will import the selected Epics along with their child Stories directly into the backlog of your Program Board.

2. Importing Jira Epics or Stories Using Jira Filters

For bulk import, you can use Jira filters to fetch multiple Epics or Stories at once.

🔐 Permissions Note The Integration Account must have access to the Jira filter and the issues returned by that filter. Relevant Jira projects must also be linked to the integration account.

Steps:

  1. On the Program Board Backlog, click the “From Jira” dropdown and choose “By Filter”.

  2. A popup will open with an option to select the Issue Type:

    • Epics (default): Savah will fetch Epics and automatically pull in their child Stories.

    • Stories: Savah will fetch Stories and identify their parent Epics.

  3. Click Next to proceed.

  4. A list of available Jira Filters (accessible to the Integration Account) will appear, each with its JQL shown.

  5. Select the appropriate filter and click Next.

  6. A preview of the issues to be imported will be shown.

  7. Click Fetch & Save.

Savah will import the selected Epics or Stories (with their parents or children, as applicable) into the Program Board backlog.

  1. Once data is fetched, a Reload button will appear.

  2. Click Reload to refresh the board and see your imported items.

Summary

Whether importing a few Jira Epics with known keys or planning entire sprints using saved Jira filters, Savah offers a flexible and integrated experience for managing your Program Board in sync with Jira.
